Learn About Indian Tea

Journey with us to the heart of India's tea territories and discover what goes into making your daily cup. Meet the growers and makers, learn about the different types of tea (green, black, white etc), tea cultivation and processing, discover the local culture, make new friends and connections, and even source new teas!

Assam- Darjeeling- Sikkim

The search for the perfect cup will take us first to the lush tropical plains of Assam, one of the birthplaces of the tea plant. We’ll visit small gardens that grow tea organically and naturally. We’ll then head to the legendary region of Darjeeling and have the option to travel further into the Himalayas into the state of Sikkim.

Deepen Your Knowledge

Over the course of the trip, we'll tour a number of tea gardens, and offer a series of workshops on topics like the history of Indian tea, and the role played by terroir and geography. We'll learn about tea leaf chemistry and the importance of soil. You'll witness the various methods of tea processing from the orthodox to the CTC method. We’ll receive instruction on cupping and how to critically evaluate teas.

Expert Tour Guides

The tour will be led by Alison, founder of the Karma Tea Co. who has extensively explored India’s remote tea growing corners. Alongside Alison, we'll be joined by tea expert Nalin Modha, who has worked in the tea industry for over 30 years, and we'll be joined by different local tea makers and industry experts along the way.
